Springpad Update Takes Page From Pinterest

Springpad 3.0

Digital notebook service Springpad on Wednesday launched a complete redesign, updating its Web, iOS, and Android apps with a new interface and some Pinterest-like features.

If you're not familiar with Springpad, it's a note-taking and organizing app that allows users to create and personalize "smart" notebooks for any topic or area of interest. The latest version, Springpad 3.0, has been, "totally rethought, redesigned and refreshed" with a simplified interface, new collaboration features, and improved search function, Springpad wrote in a blog post Wednesday.

The latest version takes some inspiration from Pinterest by allowing users to make their notebooks public, follow other users' public notebooks, and "spring" items to their own notebooks. But going beyond the functionality of Pinterest, Springpad will add useful information such as maps, menu pages, or a product's price and URL when a user saves something into a notebook.

"The new Springpad is all about helping you save, share and discover things that are important to you with the people you trust," Springpad wrote.

On the collaboration front, users can now add contributors to any notebook, and see a consolidated view of recent additions and changes from all contributors. Springpad also added a new Explore section on its homepage where users can find inspiration and other public notebooks to follow.

Users can also now save items more quickly and easily, because Springpad removed a number of steps previously required for adding something new to a notebook. Springpad also revamped its search function with the addition of a new "smartbar" from which users can search for and add items to a notebook.

The new look is rolling out to Springpad accounts starting on Wednesday morning. The updated iOS and Android apps are available now for free in the App Store and via Google Play.
