Facebook, Microsoft Patent Deal; Intel Unveils Ivy Bridge; Adobe Releases CS6

Topping tech headlines on Monday was a patent deal between Microsoft and Facebook, as well as the release of Intel's Ivy Bridge and Adobe's CS6.

The social network continued its patent shopping spree, signing a deal with Microsoft that will see Microsoft license or sell many of the patents it picked up from AOL to Facebook for $550 million in cash. New filings from Facebook, meanwhile, showed that profit dipped from a year ago, but revenue increased to $1.06 billion.

On the chip front, Intel shipped its new Ivy Bridge processors, which promise power savings and more performance. Acer will be among the companies to offer new PCs with 3rd Generation Intel Core processors. But while the chip giant has been talking up the ultrabook as a disruptor of the laptop market, it is also quietly promoting all-in-ones as a category that could shake up the desktop space.

Another big release from yesterday was Adobe's Creative Suite 6 (CS6). The leading digital media design software got a major overhaul and new online subscription pricing.

In advance of next week's London press event, meanwhile, Samsung released a teaser video for its upcoming smartphone release, which took a shot at its top rival, Apple.
