Nvidia GeForce GTX 690; Samsung Tops Nokia; Google Drive's Slip Ups

Nvidia GeForce GTX 690

Didn't have time to check out the tech headlines over the weekend? Here's what you missed.

Delivering the keynote address at the GeForce LAN/Nvidia Game Festival in Shanghai, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang announced the company's new video card, the GeForce GTX 690. The GTX 690 utilizes the new 28nm Kepler architecture Nvidia introduced on the GTX 680 last month.

Meanwhile, two separate reports confirmed that Samsung has now overtaken Nokia as the world's top cell phone maker. But as IHS iSuppli analyst Wayne Lam told the Associated Press, attempting to discern just how many smartphones Samsung sells is like "using compasses instead of GPS." While most analysts agree that Samsung sold the most phones, period, in the first quarter of this year, the estimates for just how many smartphones Samsung sold vary wildly — so much so that it's difficult to conclusively state a champion of the smartphone market.

And now that dust on Google Drive has settled and users finally have the chance to play around with the company's new cloud storage system, general reactions have been good, but not great. PCMag rounded up some of the larger criticisms that might be keeping Drive from dominating.
